Bug Fix
If you are experiencing problems running NBA
Live 99 period, then you are probably a victim of the "Ticker Bug." The symptoms
of the bug are that in the beginning of the game during the opening screens, the game
minimizes and attempts to establish a dial-up connection to the internet. Here are some
ways you can fix that:
First of all, you should go to your
"Control Panel" and then to the "Internet" control panel. The
"Internet Properties" should come up in a new window; there should be a row of
tabs near the top of the window. One should say "Connections." Go to that tab
and at the top should be a section about how you connect to the internet. There are two
radio buttons. Click on the button next to the words "Connect to the internet using a
local area network." The game should run normally now. Once you get into the game,
make sure you turn off the "Ticker" in the Gameplay drop down menu of the
Details section and set the speed of the ticker to the lowest setting in the Options
section. It should remember these settings next time you play the game so switch your
internet settings back to their origional state once you have completed this process.
If the above was too difficult for you, just
sign on to the internet. The game should run fine after you are signed on. Proceed to turn
off the "Ticker" feature and set the speed of the ticker to the lowest setting.
If you wish, you can avoid attempt to avoid
these steps by finding the nba99.ini file in your NBA Live 99 main directory. Open the
file in notepad and look for the following two entries:
displayticker_gp
tickerspeed
Set the value for both of those entries to zero
and the game should run normally.
If these steps do not solve your problem, it
is very liekly that your problem is not related to the ticker bug and is something that
should be solved by EA Tech Support. Try using the Tech Support button on the NBA Live
Autorun menu.
Are you curious why the ticker bug causes
problems?
Well, Live 99 has a ticker feature that is supposed to show you real NBA scores
while playing the game. By default, the feature is turned on before playing the game. The
game, knowing this, tries to establish an internet connection to get the scores. However,
NBA Live 99 was not designed to go back and forth from the game and Windows, causing the
game to lock up.
